Veriflow Expands Its Brain Trust

Brain Trust

In my initial contribution to this forum, I discussed what drew me to Veriflow—the team’s bold goal of creating a new generation of ‘bullet-proof networks.’ I was also extremely impressed with the team behind this original thinking—a group of computer science professors and Ph.D. students in Champaign, Illinois. When you’re proposing a revolutionary initiative like applying the mathematical precision of formal verification to enterprise networks, you better have the brain power to turn that proposal into a reality. Fortunately, the team at Veriflow is more than up to the challenge.

I’m happy to announce today that we’re expanding that brain trust with two significant additions to our team. The first is Scott Shenker, who with his unparalleled record of success and innovation, is a tremendous resource to Veriflow on many fronts. A true visionary and pioneer in the field of software-defined networking, Scott co-founded and served as CEO for Nicira, which was sold to VMware for $1.26B in 2012. He is also a co-founder and board member of Databricks, a leading data analytics firm. In 2011, Scott helped co-found the Open Networking Foundation, which promotes the adoption of software-defined networking. In addition, Scott is the Penther Professor of Engineering in the EECS Department at the University of California, Berkeley, and serves as chief scientist at the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley (ICSI).

Also joining our team is Sajid Awan, who as VP of Products will have responsibility for directing the areas of product strategy and rollout. Sajid brings a unique combination of both building and running large complex networks around the world. He has more than 20 years of experience in product management, systems engineering and operations in the areas of networking, cloud computing, security and information technology. Sajid was CIO at MCB Bank, where he was responsible for all aspects of IT infrastructure and operations that spanned 1100 branches nationwide. Prior to that, Awan was the vice president of global field operations at Force10 Networks, which was acquired by Dell in 2011.

The early reception to the Veriflow platform has been overwhelmingly positive. From analysts to prospective customers, the response has been universal: you guys are on to something big here. Now our job is to deliver on our initial premise. On behalf of all of us at Veriflow, I want to welcome Sajid and Scott to our world-class team.
